A video tutorial on how to get the classic Boom Bap/East Coast lo-fi sound in FL Studio. It’s all about adding noise (vinyl noises, crackles, clicks etc.) and distorting the sound (by reducing samplerate and the bitrate, and adding distortion fx).

For this I used the following plugins:
Izotope Vinyl (to add vinyl sound effects).
Tone Boosters Time Machine (to reduce the sample rate and bit rate).
CMT Bitcrusher (for distortion – I no longer use this one, now I use FL Studio’s FastDist plugin).

I’d also recommend using Tonebytes Lo-Fizer VST plugin in your beats. I use it to add wow-n-flutter effect to a sample, or to add a hiss background noise.
