A video tutorial on how to get the G-Funk synth bass sound to use in your G-Funk beats. You can also use this sound as a synth lead if you play it at higher pitches.
In order to get that type of bass, you need to understand how to use ADSR (Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) envelopes.
Most synthesizer plugins have two ADSR sections. One for the filter envelope and another for oscillator volume envelope.
An explanation of ADSR:
For the volume envelope:
Attack – Controls how long it takes for the sound to go from 0% volume to 100% volume (after you start pressing a key).
Decay – Controls how long it takes for the sound to go from 100% volume to sustain level volume.
Sustain – Controls the sustain volume (when you keep the key pressed).
Release – Controls how long it takes for the sound to fade away after you release a key.
For the filter envelope:
Attack – Controls how long it takes for the filter to go from 0% cutoff (filters all sound) to 100% cutoff (no filtering).
Decay – Controls how long it takes for the filter to go from 100% cutoff to sustain level.
Sustain – Controls the sustain cutoff level.
Release – Controls how long it takes for the filter cutoff to go back to 0% after you release a key.
